Chapter 40

The final boy waves him off, smiling brightly. "Please do not worry, Eraserhead! I am the key performer here today, after all!"

Turning to us, he cups a hand around his ear. "The journey ahead-?!"

At our silence, he jumps up. "That's where you say: '-will be full of difficulties!' Alright! You all utterly fail at getting the point of conversation!"

More silence.

"Well, I can see from all your faces that you've got no clue what's going on. The explanation of the internships, which are not even a requirement has been left to these third year students who just appeared all of the sudden. I get it, it doesn't make much sense, right? You all acquired your provisional licenses as first years, right?"

Continued silence.

"Hm... I see. Well, it seems like my intro fell flat here, so how would you all like to team up and fight me?!"

"HUH?!"

Turning to sensei, he grins. "It would make the most sense for them to witness and feel our own 'experience' with their own bodies, wouldn't you say Eraserhead?!"

A tired sigh.

"Do as you like."

We soon find ourselves in the Gamma Gymnasium in our gym uniforms. I notice Amajiki standing against the wall again but my attention is torn when the blond guy starts talking.

"Feel free to come at me from wherever and whenever you want. So, who's up first?"

"I would like to go!" Midoriya steps up, determination in his eyes.

"The problem child, eh?! That's what I'm talkin' about! As I thought, you're full of energy!"

I look around and see the rest of the class get ready to fight. I almost feel like this is a bad idea. We don't even know his quirk yet...

Out of nowhere, the blond guy's clothes slip off. As Midoriya goes to strike him, he phases right through his body.

Then he suddenly appears behind us, attacking Jiro.

"He can teleport?!"

From the sidelines, Aizawa-sensei speaks up. "Alright, class! This is a great opportunity! So get yourselves roughed up a bit and learn from it! Mirio Togata is, as far as I know, the very closest man to becoming number one!"

In seconds, he takes out over half of the class and I think for a moment before popping off to the side with Todoroki. Aizawa glances to me.

"You aren't going to fight him either?"

I shake my head. "I know m-my own strengths. I think sometimes it's better to back off than to fight without knowing your opponent... and I don't want to be number one anyway. I just want to help people."

Aizawa watches me for a moment before nodding slightly and turning back to the others.

Mirio quickly takes out the rest of the class and leaves them rolling around on the floor.

Once everyone's back on their feet, he smiles blindingly. "And so- that's the gist of it! Was my quirk strong?"

"Too strong!!"

"Not only phasing but teleporting like [L/n], too?! Are you a hybrid like Todoroki?"

"No, I've only got one quirk! It's called 'Permeation!' I don't teleport- its just an application of my quirk!" He goes on to explain how he managed to get around so fast by dropping into the ground, deciding his trajectory, and shooting out.

"It really is a strong quirk..."

"Not at all. It's strong because I made it strong. When I activate it, I can't breathe, see, hear, or feel anything. But because I still have mass, the only sensation I feel is falling." I listen closely as he explains that prediction is the most critical skill to have.

"In these internships, we are no longer treated like 'guests' but rather we act as sidekicks for the pros! And that is a very terrifying thing. There have been instances where people have died...! Nonetheless, no matter how scary or difficult the thought may be, all of it is an invaluable experience that you cannot get in a school.

With the experience I gained from my internship, I was able to transform my powers and reach the top! And for that reason, scary or not, this is an opportunity you cannot miss out on, first years!!"

Mirio finishes with a wide smile and a dramatic pose.

Back at the dorms, Kirishima flops onto the couch next to me. "[N/n]! What do you think about those internships? Any heroes you wanna work with?"

I nod softly. "I d-don't know if the hero I'm thinking of would even do internships though..."

"You should ask! I'm gonna go get a list of approved agencies after class tomorrow if you wanna come with."

"Al-alright."

"Can I ask who the hero is?"

"It's..."

started writing this entire
story with the sole intention of class A noticing a similarity between Reader and Amajiki!!
