The first thing I notice is a quiet beeping. I fixate on it and the world slowly comes back into focus. I hear a quiet murmuring and force myself to open my eyes.

The light of the room is blinding at first but my vision adjusts. I gaze around and notice Aizawa speaking with a doctor in the doorway. When I move to sit up, the two adults suddenly turn their attention to me. The doctor walks over, speaking first.

"[Y/n] [L/n]? Do you know where you are? How you got here?"

I nod slowly, thinking back. "...hospital? The...the mission for Eri..."

Suddenly frantic, I glance to Aizawa. "Did we- we save her? Is she okay? Are you okay? You w-were sta-"

He holds up a hand. "Relax. We got Eri. I'm fine. Focus on yourself for now."

The doctor nods at his words. "You had a severe concussion that we're still monitoring and a laceration to your right leg that required several stitches. Recovery Girl did what she could for now. We're still trying to get in contact with your mother. Is there anyone else we can call?"

I shrug nervously, averting my gaze. "Um... Not really, mom is all there is... She's re-really busy so you don't have to worry her if I'm gonna be okay."

Aizawa walks out to the hallway. "I'll be back in a moment."

After a quick checkup, the doctor leaves and Aizawa comes back to the room. It's quiet for a couple minutes when the pro suddenly speaks up.

"[L/n]... Nighteye... he passed."

I'm completely still for a moment, not quite comprehending what he said.

"...what?"

A dejected sigh. The teacher moves to sit on the edge of the bed.

"He died a short while ago. A result of his injuries."

It feels like my heart breaks in slow motion as I make sense of the words. "I... he died? From the battle? ...I should've... I could've-"

Tears fill my eyes and I wipe at them self consciously. I wasn't close to Nighteye in any way but- dying while trying to save someone... reminds me of dad. I didn't really know him either...

Aizawa rests a comforting hand on my shoulder, meeting my eyes. "The responsibility lies with us adults. There's nothing you would have been able to do. I'm sorry."

I take a moment to pull myself together before speaking again. "Wh-what about ev-everyone else? Are they o-okay?"

"Kirishima, Amajiki, and Midoriya are fine. Mirio... his quirk is gone but we're working to see what we can do."

"...an-and Eri?"

"She developed a fever and hasn't woken since we arrived. During the rescue, her quirk went out of control so she's being quarantined for now."

I nod softly before glancing up to Aizawa. "I... I'm glad we saved her."

"Me too."

It's quiet for a moment until the teacher breaks the silence.

"You did well taking out that villain after teleporting into the room. Very fluid and efficient. No hesitation whatsoever. Good job." One of his rare smiles dance across his features.

I feel a spark of happiness in spite of everything. "...Thanks... I learned from the b-best..."

Twenty minutes later, a familiar face appears in the doorway and Aizawa takes his leave. Lilac eyes soften and he's across the room, pulling me into his arms. I freeze up before sinking into the hug, burying my face in his shoulder. I feel myself choke up at the comfort.

"...'toshi." I wince at the sound of my voice cracking.

He hushes me, running a hand through my hair as if to reassure himself that I really am there.

The hug lasts a few minutes until the tired teen pulls back to meet my eyes.

"You're okay? Nothing serious?"

I nod a little too quickly. "...yeah. I'm fine. Nothin' to worry about."

Hitoshi eyes me critically for a moment before Aizawa pops his head into the room. "Concussion. Laceration on his right leg with stitches. Recovery Girl will visit again in the morning."

Feeling betrayed, I turn to the pro hero but he's already gone. The indigo haired teen glares halfheartedly.

"You're so lucky you're not annoying."

Forcing myself to move past the heaviness of the situation, I smile teasingly. "Sucks that you are though."

"I take it back. You are annoying."

Hitoshi ends up staying the night after he refuses to leave. Everyone decides it's easier just to let him. I manage to fall asleep but at some point I'm startled awake by an all too familiar nightmare with a new twist.

I sit up abruptly, accidentally waking Hitoshi as well.

"Wha- huh? [Y/n]?" He looks around sleepily before fixing his gaze on me, concerned.

"Hey...hey... what's wrong?"

I cover my face, trying to force myself to relax.

A hand rubs my back comfortingly.

"[Y/n]..."

I mumble indistinctly for a moment before manage to whisper the words.

"...jus' a nightmare... it's stupid."

The other boy's eyes soften. "Yeah... alright, move over."

Confused, I follow his directions. He slides into the bed next to me, wrapping me in a secure hug. Something about the contact makes me feel safer than I have in a while.

I feel the fear edge away when the lilac haired boy rests his chin on top of my head, humming lightly. I don't recognize the melody but I find myself drifting off in minutes.

The next morning, I wake up leaning against Hitoshi's chest. Looking up, I notice that he's awake. A soft smile greets me.

"Feeling better?"

I sit up a little. "Yeah...th-thank you."

His tone switches from soft to teasing in seconds and he winks dramatically.

"Anytime."

"Sh-shut up!"

I'm discharged later that morning, my leg fully healed after another treatment from Recovery Girl.

Heading into the waiting room, I'm suddenly swept up into a hug by a certain boisterous redhead.

"[N/n]! I heard from the others! You were amazing!"

I laugh softly, pulling back from the embrace. "S-so were you."

The next day, we go through a ton of inquiries and processes. We finally make it back to the dorms later that night. We're bombarded by the rest of the class upon entering the common area. It's overwhelming.

"Are you guys alright?!"

"We saw it all on the news!!"

"Everyone's been worried."

"You've been through a lot!"

Iida suddenly reins everyone in. "You all saw the news, didn't you? So you know what they went through. As a class, we should be sensitive to their feelings and let them rest. It's not just their bodies... their spirits mus-"

I pop to my room while the others are preoccupied. Collapsing to my bed, I finally let myself feel everything.
