I'll Try And Make It Through Without Crying

A common misunderstanding about men, is that they don't listen, but any women would agree and say "yeah, they don't." But not in Kadaj's case, ever since he had met (Y/n) and fell in love with her, he made sure to remember each and ever detail that came out of her mouth.

"So, are you nervous?" Yazoo asked, Kadaj just shook his head, feeling his heart race.
"It's going to be okay." Loz said, "She's really nice."
"That doesn't help." Yazoo said, unimpressed.
"I'm sorry! But she is!" Loz said back, crossing his arms.

But, he never told her that, It was his little secret. But, since the remnant of Sephiroth was too afraid to confess his feelings, he decided to become friends with her. With becoming friends, he had to get used to her witty banter and her over all caring personality. Which made him love her even more.

"Do you really think it's a good idea to drink?" Loz asked, staring at Kadaj who had pulled out a flask from his suit pocket, and taking a long swig.
"S-shut up." Kadaj said, bitterly. Yazoo just rolled his eyes and hit Loz upside the head.
"Good job, you made him mad."
Loz rubbed ths area where Yazoo hit, he glared angrily at him.
"Hey! That hurt!"
"Don't cry, Loz."

Unfortunately, their friendship didn't prepare him for other men making their moves on her. Which annoyed him to his very core, so it lead to him doing one of two things. Just sit there and listen to them chat, or not have any of it and intervene with the conversation. But it wasn't till a certain swordsman to ask (Y/n) a very important question. The whole event had scarred Kadaj mentally.

"(Y/n)?" Cloud walked up, his composure weakened with nervousness. (Y/n) looked at Kadaj with confusion before turning towards Cloud and giving him a kind smile.
"Yes?" She asked, Cloud then took the opportunity to get down on one knee and reach into his pocket. Both (Y/n) and Kadaj's eyes widened, as they watched Cloud pull out a box. He then opened it, revealing a ring.
"(Y/n), will you marry me?" Cloud asked, holding up the box with the ring in it.
"WHAT!" Both (Y/n) and Kadaj said in unison. (Y/n) looked down at Cloud, her cheeks were red, her heart was racing, she then smile.
"Yes." She finally said, Kadaj looked at (Y/n) with confusion, trying to make sense of the whole situation. Because in his mind, this came out of nowhere, Yes, (Y/n) was dating Cloud but he didn't know they had gotten THIS far in their relationship.

"Kadaj, fix your tie." Yazoo said, hinting at Kadaj's lopsided tie. Kadaj groaned, fixing his tie. He stood there, waiting for everything. He then saw (Y/n)'s father, walking up and making sure everything was set up.
"Can you believe it, Kadaj? My girl, getting married." Her father said, Kadaj looked at Yazoo and Loz, who just shrugged.  Kadaj turned towards her father and gave him a fake smile.
"Yeah, can't wait." Kadaj said, his smile fading at his own words.
"I think we're almost ready, but I can't remember the flowers she wanted." (Y/n)'s father pondered,
"It's violets and roses." Kadaj answered, and cursed himself after. (Y/n)'s father stopped, and looked at Kadja.
"That's it! Thank you, Kadaj." He said, putting an arm on his shoulder before walking off.
"Nice." Yazoo said, Kadaj just huffed.

"I'm getting married!" (Y/n) screamed in excitement, Kadaj just sat there and mustered up the best fake smile he could do. It was a week before the big day, and he was helping (Y/n) pick out a dress.
"Exciting." Kadaj said, sarcastically.
"Oh, cheer up you grump." (Y/n) said, putting her arms around his shoulder, making Kadaj's heart stop. "It won't be that boring."
"Yep, I can see it now, I sit front row and catch your bouquet and then throw it at Loz even though he hates flowers." Kadaj said, rolling his eyes. (Y/n) giggled, catching Kadaj's attention.
"I pictured the same thing." She giggled,
"Great, make sure to pick flowers without thorns." Kadaj stated flatly, (Y/n) just shook her head and stood in front of the mirror.
"I have flowers and everything planned out." She said, twirling infront of the mirror while Kadaj watched from the arm chair that was behind her.
"Yep, you want Rose's and violets, with a smell of vanilla. You also would want your wedding big, but not too expensive to save your father some money. Also, you want it indoors so your wedding won't get rained on and if it's sunny, it's so you won't get a sun burn." Kadaj finished, (Y/n) paused, starring at him with shock.
"Y-you remember all of that?" She asked, stepping towards him. Kadaj nodded, his expression soften from his annoyed look. (Y/n)'s cheeks were a light shade of red, "I-I guess, I should stop talking about my wedding so much."
Kadaj shook his head,
"You've always wanted your dream wedding, it's just things I remember you talking about when we first met."
(Y/n) smiled, she put her hand on his cheek, making Kadaj's heart flutter.
"You're so sweet." (Y/n) said, she then leaned in and kissed his cheek.

"The bride is ready!" A women yelled from the crowd, presumably (Y/n)'s aunt. The crowd then stood up, Kadaj sighed, not excited for what was about to happen. He looked for the front, and saw Cloud, who fiddled nervously with the sleeves of his suit. Kadaj rolled his eyes, Yazoo took notice of this and elbowed Kadaj, who just glared at him.
"Don't let (Y/n) see you like this." Yazoo whispered,
"This tie is itchy." Loz said, interrupting, Yazoo just rolled his eyes.
"You're just sensitive." Yazoo commented.
"I'm not!" Loz exclaimed.

The music started, signaling to everyone that (Y/n) was about to walk in. Kadaj felt fed up, he felt like he was going to cry but he didn't want anyone to see. It was like everything was going in slow motion just to torture him, because now he had to watch the women he loved, get married to another man. He looked at Yazoo and Loz, who looked excited for the ceremony, they were so oblivious to his pain. Since he wasn't the man to talk about feelings, he never mentioned to his brothers that he had feelings for (Y/n).

The worst was here, she stood there, hand in hand with her soon to be husband. Smiles on their faces. Kadaj felt nothing but pain, nothing but resentment, but for who? Who did he resent? (Y/n)? Cloud? No, it was himself. If he had just acted faster, told her how he felt then it would've gone one of two ways, they would end up together or he would've gotten it off his chest. But now, he sat there, watching his girl get married to another man. If it wasn't for his shots of whiskey, he swore that he would be crying at the moment. So, he took another shot, feeling the tears sneak up on him.

So, he managed to make it through without crying. While she walked down the isle, Kadaj caught (Y/n)'s eye. What he saw puzzled him, a single tear slipping down her cheek, and a sad look on her face, while her husband looked the other way and waved to his friends. Once (Y/n) saw Kadaj, she instantly put on a fake smile, the same one that he's seen many times before, and waved, not yet whipping the tear from her face.
As quickly as the tear fell, she looked down and took a deep breath, continuing down the isle.
