It all started with a spoonful of sugar.

Keefe had been in the kitchen, sipping his favorite bottle of lushberry juice, when Sophie wandered in, looking half-asleep. She poured herself a cup, grabbed the sugar jar, and stirred in a spoonful without paying much attention.

A moment later, her face scrunched up in pure horror. "What—what is this?!" she sputtered, setting the mug down like it might explode.

Keefe doubled over laughing, holding onto the counter for support. "It's salt, Foster! You've been Sencen'd!" a/n: reminds me of my friend Maya saying to me after she switched my water with her soup at a sleepoer. "YOU HAVE BEEN MIA'D"

Sophie glared at him, her cheeks flushing. "Seriously? You switched the sugar and salt? How old are you?" a/n: my exact reaction after maya made me SWIG A CUP OF COLD DISGUSTING SOUP instead of water

"Old enough to know genius when I see it in the mirror," Keefe shot back, smirking. "Admit it, Foster—you're impressed."

"Oh, I'm impressed," Sophie said, her voice sweet but her eyes gleaming with vengeance. "Impressed you think this is over."  a/n: shes about to burn down Keefes prank storehouse

Keefe raised an eyebrow. "What's that supposed to—"

Before he could finish, Sophie flicked her wrist, and a splash of tea soared through the air, hitting him square in the chest.

By midday, the entire house was a battleground. a/n: SO REAL

Keefe retaliated with an elaborate trap involving glitter bombs tied to Sophie's bedroom door. Sophie countered by filling his favorite pair of boots with syrup. They called a temporary truce at lunch, but the moment Sophie turned her back, Keefe swapped her fizzleberry tea with sour elixir. a/n: i was gonna say lemonade without sugar but i thought lemonade elixir would be more elvin-y

"Keefe!" Sophie screeched after her first sip, spitting it back into the cup.

"Oops," Keefe said, grinning. "Must've grabbed the wrong bottle."

Sophie narrowed her eyes. "You're going to regret that."

Keefe leaned back in his chair, lacing his fingers behind his head. "Bring it on, Foster. I was born for this."

The pranks escalated as the day went on.

Sophie hid Keefe's favorite tunic, replacing it with a bright pink one embroidered with "I <3 Sophie's Rules." He wore it proudly, calling it "a bold fashion statement."

Keefe rigged a hologram of himself in Sophie's closet, programmed to say, "Looking good, Foster!" whenever she opened the door. She nearly jumped out of her skin the first time she saw it.

By the time evening rolled around, Grady and Edaline had intervened twice, threatening to confiscate Keefe's prank supplies if the chaos didn't stop. But neither Sophie nor Keefe was ready to surrender.

That night, Sophie was lying in bed, plotting her next move, when she heard a soft knock on her window. She sat up, startled, and saw Keefe standing on the balcony, holding what looked like... a white flag?

She opened the window, crossing her arms. "What are you doing?"

"Calling a truce," Keefe said, stepping inside. "For real this time. I mean, I could keep going, but I figured I'd give you a chance to wave the white flag before you really lose."

Sophie raised an eyebrow. "You're the one holding the flag."

"Details," Keefe said, grinning. He pulled a small box from behind his back and handed it to her. "Here. Peace offering."

Sophie opened the box and found a batch of cookies inside, still warm and smelling of chocolate and caramel. "You baked these?"

"With a little help from Elwin," Keefe admitted, scratching the back of his neck. "But I didn't prank them, I swear. They're totally safe."

Sophie hesitated, then took a bite. The cookie practically melted in her mouth. "Okay, you're forgiven. For now."

Keefe plopped onto the edge of her bed, watching her with a lopsided smile. "You know, you're kind of terrifying when you're in revenge mode." a/n: annabeth chase and sophie. THE SCARY GIRLFRIENDS

"And you're impossible," Sophie said, smirking.

"Yeah, but you love it," Keefe teased.

Sophie rolled her eyes, but her smile gave her away. "Don't push your luck, Sencen."

"Wouldn't dream of it," Keefe said, leaning back on his hands. "Truce?"

Sophie held out her hand. "Truce. But if you prank me again, I'm coming for you."

Keefe shook her hand, his grin widening. "Noted."

As he left her room, Sophie couldn't help but smile. Keefe may have been impossible, but he always managed to make life a little brighter—and a lot more fun.
