Sophie's heart raced as she stood outside the Black Swan's hideout, the weight of Mr. Forkle's words crushing down on her. Her hands trembled as she replayed the conversation in her mind, each moment sharper than the last.

"You've been plotting with the Neverseen," Forkle had accused, his face hard with disappointment. "Conspiring with our enemies. I can't allow that in the Black Swan. You're not welcome here anymore, Sophie."

The words felt like a punch to her chest, leaving her gasping for air. She had never felt so betrayed, especially by those she trusted most. The Black Swan had been her safe haven, the place where she thought she was making a difference in the fight against the Neverseen. But now—now, it felt like everything she'd worked for had been ripped from her.

Sophie stood frozen for a moment, the weight of Mr. Forkle's words still pressing down on her chest. She had never felt so rejected. "Plotting with the Neverseen"—the accusation echoed in her mind. She wasn't guilty of that. She had only tried to understand the enemy, to get close to their plans, but now they thought she was one of them.

Her hands clenched into fists, the cool night air doing little to calm her. With a sharp breath, she turned away from the Black Swan hideout, her legs unsteady beneath her. She walked, not caring where her feet took her, as long as it was far away from the disappointment and rejection she had just experienced.

"Sophie," a voice called out, familiar and comforting. She didn't need to look up to know who it was.

Keefe.

He had always been there, through every battle, every tear, every fight. The warmth in his voice made her shoulders slump, the tension in her muscles releasing.

She didn't answer right away, just kept walking, her eyes on the ground as her mind reeled. Keefe caught up to her easily, his hand gently brushing against her arm.

"You okay?" he asked, though Sophie knew he could see the hurt on her face.

"No," Sophie whispered, her voice cracking. "They kicked me out, Keefe. Mr. Forkle... he said I've been plotting with the Neverseen."

Keefe's eyes narrowed in disbelief. "What? Sophie, that's insane! You know you didn't do that."

"I know," she whispered. "But they don't. They think I'm working with them." Her voice shook, and she stopped walking, standing still in the middle of the night with nothing but the distant stars above her.

Keefe stepped closer, his hand finding hers. "They don't understand. You're doing what you have to do to fight them, Sophie. You're not one of them."

Sophie shook her head, the tears finally falling. "I tried. I tried to prove I'm on their side, but they don't trust me anymore."

"I trust you," Keefe said, his voice firm and steady, holding her gaze. "I never doubted you for a second."

Her heart clenched at the sincerity in his words. She looked up at him, her brown eyes glossy with unshed tears. "But it's not just about me. It's the whole Black Swan, Keefe. They're all distancing themselves from me. I can't fight this alone."

Keefe stepped closer, wrapping his arms around her in a tight hug. He felt warm and real, and for a moment, Sophie let herself sink into him, trying to let go of the suffocating weight she'd been carrying. "You're not alone, Sophie. You never have been."

She closed her eyes, resting her head against his shoulder. "I don't know what to do anymore."

Keefe gently pulled away but kept his hands on her shoulders, his gaze never leaving hers. "You don't have to have all the answers right now. But you've got me, and I'm not going anywhere."

Sophie finally let out a breath, the pressure in her chest easing just a little. "Thank you, Keefe."

He smiled, his usual teasing grin replacing the worried expression he had before. "Always, Foster."

Sophie couldn't help but smile back. Even in the darkest moments, Keefe somehow made everything seem a little bit brighter.
