a/n: younger sokeefe, around 10 years old, HUMANS TOO. HOPE U ENJOYY!

Sophie Foster was on a mission.

"Well, technically, it's not a mission," she muttered to herself as she crawled through the grass, trying not to laugh too loudly. "But it feels like one."

The sun was setting, casting a golden glow over 3000 Havenfield street. Sophie had promised Keefe they would meet in their secret spot—where no one else could find them—and today, she had an important secret to share.

When Sophie reached the old oak tree by the edge of the forest, she spotted him immediately. Keefe was already there, sitting on a branch and swinging his legs back and forth. His messy hair and wide grin were a dead giveaway.

"Keefe!" Sophie called out, running toward him.

Keefe's head whipped around, and his face lit up. "Foster!" he shouted, leaping from the branch with a dramatic roll mid-air before landing in the grass in front of her. "You're late! I was starting to think you were too busy to hang out with your favorite best friend."

Sophie rolled her eyes but grinned. "No way, Sencen. You're the one who can't be on time, remember?"

Keefe stuck out his tongue, and Sophie shoved him lightly.

"You know," Keefe said, eyeing her with a sly smirk, "You're getting way too good at that shoving thing. We might need to start keeping score of who's the better best friend."

Sophie raised an eyebrow. "Oh, really? You think you're the better best friend?"

Keefe nodded dramatically. "Absolutely. Who else would be able to teach you how to pull off the best pranks?"

"I'm pretty sure you were the one who got us in trouble last time," Sophie pointed out, remembering the time Keefe had snuck glitter into Doctor Elwin's shampoo. It had taken hours to clean up the mess in the school clinics bathroom. And of course they had to clean it up

"That was a masterpiece," Keefe said, waving a hand dismissively. "And you totally helped me with it."

Sophie laughed. "Yeah, I guess I did. But that's beside the point. I came here because I need to tell you something."

Keefe immediately perked up. "Ooh, a secret! What is it? Tell me, tell me!"

Sophie giggled. She leaned in close to Keefe, lowering her voice. "I think I figured out how we can make our hideout even cooler."

Keefe's eyes sparkled with excitement. "Cooler? How? Did you find a secret treasure chest?"

Sophie shook her head, taking out a small, folded-up map from her pocket. "Better. A hidden path that leads to the old cave in the hills. I think we can make it our ultimate secret base."

Keefe gasped. "A cave? That's like—the coolest hideout ever!" He clapped his hands together. "We're gonna be so sneaky."

Sophie smiled, thrilled to see Keefe so excited. "I knew you'd love it. We can decorate it, keep it a secret from everyone... maybe even make it our official base of operations for when we need to escape from the adults."

"I'm in!" Keefe shouted, jumping up and doing a little victory dance. "Let's get started right now! I'll go get supplies. I've got a whole bunch of extra glitter and markers we can use to make a map."

"Wait, wait, wait," Sophie said, laughing. "We're going to have a map of the secret base? What's the point of a secret if we have a map?"

Keefe froze, mid-spin. "Oh. Right. I guess that's true." He scratched his head, looking thoughtful. "Maybe we just draw really bad maps. Like, so bad no one could possibly find the cave."

Sophie grinned. "Now that's a plan I can get behind."

They spent the rest of the evening making plans for their secret base—drawing out ideas on random pieces of paper, pretending to be spies on a mission, and laughing at the ridiculousness of it all.

As the sun finally set, Sophie leaned back against the tree, glancing over at Keefe, who was staring up at the sky, eyes full of wonder.

"Keefe," she said quietly.

He turned to her, his usual grin softening. "Yeah?"

"Thanks for always being here. For being my best friend."

Keefe blinked, a little surprised by the sudden seriousness in her voice. But then his grin returned, brighter than ever. "What else are best friends for? Besides, you need me to keep all your plans from being too perfect."

Sophie rolled her eyes, but she couldn't help the smile that tugged at her lips. "You're right about that. I guess I do need you to keep things interesting."

Keefe winked. "Always, Foster. Always."
