sleepy notes

Keefe had one goal when he snuck into Sophie's room at one in the morning.

Okay, maybe two.

The first was to see her. Because it had been way too long since their last stolen moment together. (A whole twelve hours. Torture.)

The second?

To kiss her.

So when he finally made it to her bedside, watching as she slept peacefully, her lips slightly parted, her hair a complete mess around her pillow—he decided he wasn't leaving without a kiss.

Leaning down, he brushed a strand of hair out of her face. His fingers barely skimmed her cheek, and even that was enough to send warmth curling through his chest.

He really shouldn't wake her up.

But, well.

Where was the fun in that?

He leaned in closer, so close, until his lips barely ghosted over hers. A soft, feather-light touch, quick but lingering just long enough that his heart ached a little.

And then—he pulled back.

Or at least, he tried to.

Because Sophie? Sophie had grabbed the front of his shirt and mumbled, half-asleep, "You're not sneaky."

Keefe froze. "Uh—"

But before he could come up with an excuse, she tugged him back down and pressed a sleepy, real kiss to his lips.

A soft, warm, barely-there kiss. But it was everything.

When she pulled away, she didn't even open her eyes—just let go of his shirt and mumbled, "Go to sleep, Keefe."

And he really, really meant to leave.

But then he saw the tiniest little smile on her face.

And just like that, he was curling up beside her, pulling her against him, letting her warmth lull him into sleep.

Keefe woke up way too early, immediately realizing where he was.

Oh shit.

Sophie was still sleeping peacefully beside him, curled into his chest, one of her hands fisted in his shirt like she knew he was about to run.

Which.

He was.

Had to.

He carefully—so carefully—untangled himself, wincing as she stirred slightly but didn't wake. Then, grabbing a random piece of paper from her desk, he scribbled down a note and left it on her pillow.

had to go,

cant let grady kill me before i get to marry you ;)

i love you to the moon and back

-K

And then—he was gone.

Sophie woke up to an empty bed, a familiar warmth still lingering beside her, and a note that made her grin way too much for eight in the morning.
