in celebration of 111 VOTES ON NEVER AGAIN!!
Sophie never thought she'd be the kind of person to care about anniversaries.
She wasn't into grand romantic gestures, she didn't obsess over dates and countdowns, and she definitely didn't expect Keefe of all people to be the type to plan something elaborate.
And yet—here she was. Standing in front of a beautifully lit setup at the peak of Havenfield's cliffs, soft fairy lights strung between the trees, a blanket spread out over the grass, and a basket that probably contained more snacks than an actual meal.
Keefe grinned, running a hand through his hair. "Not bad, huh?"
Sophie blinked, still processing. "You did this?"
He scoffed, placing a hand over his heart. "Foster, please. You wound me. Of course I did this. Who else would?"
She raised an eyebrow. "Silveny."
Keefe groaned. "Okay, first of all, rude. Second of all, that glitter horse wouldn't know romance if it hit her in the face."
Sophie laughed, stepping closer, her heart warming at the effort he'd put into all of this. She knew he joked around too much, knew he made everything seem effortless—but she also knew when he really cared about something.
And this? Their anniversary? He cared.
"Keefe," she said softly, turning to face him.
He gave her an easy smile, but there was something underneath it—something almost nervous. "Yeah?"
She shook her head, smiling as she laced her fingers through his. "Thank you."
Keefe let out a breath, like he hadn't realized he was holding it. Then, his usual smirk returned. "So, uh... does this mean I'm officially the best boyfriend ever?"
Sophie rolled her eyes, squeezing his hand. "You were already the best boyfriend ever."
And before he could respond—before he could make a joke or a dumb comment—she stood on her toes and pressed a soft kiss to his lips.
Keefe froze for half a second, then immediately melted into it, his arms wrapping around her waist like he never wanted to let go.
When they finally pulled away, he looked dazed, but very pleased. "Okay, well, that was the best anniversary gift ever."
Sophie laughed, nudging him as they settled down on the blanket.
Keefe reached for the basket, pulling out a bag of Prattles and holding them out to her. "So, ready for a night of stargazing, snack-eating, and me telling you how amazing you are for the next two hours?"
Sophie grinned, grabbing a snack and leaning against him. "Sounds perfect."
She reached into her bag and pulled out a neatly wrapped package, holding it out to him.
Keefe raised an eyebrow. "For me? Foster, you shouldn't have."
Sophie rolled her eyes. "Just open it."
Keefe grinned, tearing the wrapping off—only to stop short when he saw what was inside.
A book.
Not just any book. A thick, leather-bound album.
Slowly, he flipped it open, his breath catching as he took in the first photo—him and Sophie at a little ice cream shop in the Forbidden Cities, the one they had snuck out to late one night. He was pressing a playful kiss to her cheek, her nose scrunched up as she giggled, their ice cream cones melting slightly in their hands.
He turned the page. Another picture—Sophie laughing while he was passed out on a couch, a marker-drawn mustache doodled on his face.
Another—Keefe twirling her around in the middle of a dance floor, her dress fanning out around her.
Another—him asleep on her shoulder, her head resting lightly on top of his.
Another. Another. Another.
Every page filled with moments he barely even realized had been captured. A whole year of memories, frozen in time.
For the first time ever, Keefe was speechless.
Sophie bit her lip, watching him carefully. "Do you... like it?"
Keefe finally looked up at her, blue eyes softer than she'd ever seen them.
"Foster," he breathed, running a hand over the pages. "This is... I don't even have words."
She smiled, reaching out to lace her fingers with his. "Good."
Keefe shook his head in disbelief before pulling her into a tight hug, burying his face in her shoulder. "I love you, you know that?"
Sophie's breath hitched, her arms wrapping around him. "Yeah," she whispered. "I love you too."
Keefe pulled back just enough to press a kiss to her forehead, then smirked as he flipped another page.
"...Okay, but seriously? When did you take this one?"
