A/N: im in love with evil sophie. maybe she dyed a strand of her hair red,
The forcefield shattered with a loud crack, sending a ripple of energy through the battlefield.
Linh and Tam stood side by side, Linh's hands glowing with swirling water, while Tam's shadows curled around his fingers. Fitz was already charging forward, his jaw set, eyes locked onto Sophie with something between anger and disbelief. Biana flickered into sight beside him, her gaze darting between Sophie, Ruy, and Alvar.
Keefe didn't move. His eyes were locked on Sophie.
Sophie took a step back, her mind calculating the best way out. She could take Lia. She could even take Fitz. But all of them?
Not without backup.
Ruy let out a low whistle. I hate to say it, Foster, but this isn't looking good for you.
Alvar smirked, already fading from sight. Correction: Not looking good for us. See you later, Sophie. And then he was gone.
That little—
She didn't get to finish the thought before Fitz lunged at her.
She barely dodged in time, twisting out of the way, only to find herself face-to-face with Dex.
She tensed automatically, raising her dagger—only for Dex to block her strike with way too much ease.
Because they weren't actually fighting.
Dex's voice dropped to a whisper as he knocked her blade aside. "He still cares about you."
Sophie scoffed, blocking his next move. "I don't care."
Dex rolled his eyes, his grip tightening around her wrist as they spun in what looked like a locked struggle. "You ran away because you thought you had no other choice. Not because you wanted to."
Sophie gritted her teeth. "You don't know that."
Dex shoved her backward—lightly enough that anyone watching would think he was actually attacking. "Yes, I do. Because I was the only one you told."
She hated that he was right.
A spark of electricity crackled from his palm, close enough that she could feel the heat.
She twirled away, letting her dagger graze his arm just enough to make it look real. "Does he talk about me?"
Dex snorted. "Constantly. But not in the way you'd want."
Sophie's chest tightened. "I don't want anything."
Dex raised an eyebrow as he dodged her next strike. "Liar."
She rolled her eyes, ducking as Linh sent a blast of water toward them. "Ugh. So how's the food?"
Dex barely contained his laugh. "Terrible timing, but—same as always."
She twisted out of Fitz's way, blocking another one of Dex's easy hits before leaning in slightly. "Neverseen food is HORRIBLE. You think after this I can sneak off to your place? I need actual food."
Dex smirked. "Mom would have a heart attack if she saw you."
Sophie grinned, knocking his weapon aside. "She likes me more than she likes you."
Dex let out a fake, overdramatic gasp. "Rude."
"You'd still let me in for dinner."
Dex sighed as he lunged toward her—harmless, but flashy enough to look real. "Yeah, yeah. Just don't get me arrested, okay?"
She smirked. "No promises."
From across the battlefield, Keefe was still watching her.
Sophie tried not to care.
