Chapter 6

" No " .

He nods to himself and smiles at the corner of his lips like he knows something I don't.

" suit yourself . You can start with the green salad and I'll just make the gimpap " .

I nod in response, we both move around the kitchen in complete silence .

" Ashley sure hasn't changed has she" he says blandly .

" You are talking to me ?" I stop .

" Who else ?" He replies vaguely.

" People don't change you shouldknow that better than anyone" I remark.

He slams the knife into the table laughing arrogantly, before I used to get scared when he'd act like this , but right now I don't feel affected , I am still scared of him but not like I was before,  I'm more angry then anything.

" are you seriously still mad about last night?" .

" No , I'd have to care to be mad , and I know you don't care about me to be worried if I'm still mad or not , I prefer to not talk about this , anyone can walk in on us ,not that you are at all interested in talking  " .

He watches me move from one side of the kitchen to the other ,he nods silently and continues making his gimbpap.

My dad enters through  the living room door with Ethan's dad trailing behind him , Ethan's dad waves at us and heads to the backyard where everyone else is , his son cares very little about how disappointed his father is with us.

" Daddy!" I leap at him.

" My baby " he wraps his arms around me .

" Good morning Mr River " Ethan greets him .

" Good morning son , why you standing over there ?, Come give your old man a hug " .

They hug ," just because you are a soon to be father doesn't mean you will stop being my child , learn from my Lauren here ".

Dad's attention falls on my outfit  " we get that this is your party but don't you think you are over doing it with that outfit honey ?".

" Uh I ...".

" Thank you Mr River, I asked her the same question " .

I glare at both of them as they gang up on me .

"Whose heart are you trying to steal?".

" Thank you sir !" His fake jolly self surfaces," can you please ask her again because she has stolen mine and locked it away so I doubt it's me " .

" Lauren sweety , who are you trying to impress?" He scolds laughing with Ethan .

" last time I checked this was a family thing is anyone outside family coming?" .

" I know not one sir , if someone outside family enters through those gates then I think we will all be certain that Lauren is indeed having an affair " Ethan adds , I swear a saw a wicked smug on his face or is it my imagination.

" Okay now I'm switching sides , how dare you speak ill of my daughter!" Dad scolds playfully.

" I'm just joking Mr River we all know Lauren would never do such a thing , she is but a devoted wife that's why I love her so much, and I'm pretty sure she's just trying to make me fall deeper in love with her and I have to admit it's working" he winks at me making my insides cringe .
