Chapter 6

" I can't wait to see how you too will be as parents , I'm sure you'll do great " he sounds assured , " I'm really proud of you two I ...".

" I uh think you should save the speech for the toast later on " Ethan says in a playful tone.

" You are right..." .

" Richard!" Aunt Stephany calls him .

" I'll be right back " he excuses himself.

Does their little joke mean I have to uninvite Kam? , 'If he shows up then my dad and Ethan will start to get suspicious' , I go back and forth in my thoughts .

My face falls as I conclude that I have to uninvite Kam to avoid trouble , our main plan for now is to lay low until we find a way out.

" What's wrong?" Ethan asks .

" Uh ?" I look up and find him intently staring down at me .

" Nothing , I'll go and get changed real quick .be back in a moment " .

I take off my apron.

" Why now all of a sudden ?, You seemed determined to wear that thing " , I can hear the suspicion in his voice.

" I suddenly feel like taking it off".

" Did what me and your father say make you uncomfortable ".

My heart rate rises ." No that's not it ".

" Well then don't, you have already worn it and it kind of looks good on you "he says nonchalantly .

I pause ,was that a compliment? ,I'm not getting fooled again, I shove it right at the very back of my head .

" No , I insist on changing " I turn hot on my heel to my closet and get changed .

I end up putting on  blue skinny Jeans and an oversized Aaliyah T shirt along with white sneakers.

I hurry back downstairs and find him already done with the gimpap, he is now making my  favourite dessert - Chocolate with custard cake .

It's crazy how Ethan knows everything about me , my likes my dislikes, it would've been great to have him as a real husband that's if he was actually human .

He glances at me ," our dads have already started grilling the meat , we have to hurry up , your dad's flight leaves at six " .

" I know , but your family is leaving tomorrow right?" .

"They changed their minds ,they are also leaving this afternoon, Mom wants to make it to church tomorrow, apparently the pastor wants her as

" I see , what else can I do ?" I ask .

" Go ahead and make the custard".

" Mhm" I nod my head.

The doorbell rings, we both exchange glances " are you expecting anyone?" He asks .

I already texted Kam not to come there's no way he actually ignored me and decided otherwise.

Hesitantly ," I'll see who it is " I casually walk to the door like my heart is not throbbing.

Before I can open the door it flings wide open almost hitting my nose .

" Darling Lauren! Lovely to see you " , she hugs me acting like my best friend .

Ethan is just as confused." Sarah ?" .

He walks over to us , nostrils flaring he asks ," what are you doing here ? I thought I made myself clear this morning" his voice is harsh but extremely low .

" I thought you'd be happy to see me , this is not the reaction I was expecting" she walks past him straight into the kitchen.we follow her.

" what are we making?" .

" Leave before anyone sees you " Ethan commands .

" Relax ,Ethan you are very scary when you are not smiling " .

"Sarah !" He reprimands.

"Shssh baby we don't want to alert the fam , I had nothing to do, I got bored sitting by myself at a fancy restaurant and I thought to myself, why be alone when I'm not alone " she laughs like a mad woman , in my opinion she gets crazier by the day , she sees how Ethan bends to her all the time which in turn makes her cross every boundary she can.

" My boyfriend is having a BBQ with his family and as his future wife I think it is a must for me to see my future in laws " she claims.

Ethan groans ," Sarah don't cross your boundary" .

" I'm not baby this is where I am supposed to be , how can you call that crossing the boundary?"

He looks at her like her days are numbered.

" Oh relax I'll just say I'm here as Lauren's friend ,where is everyone by the way ?, In the garden?, I'll go join them , you two finish whatever you were doing " she strides toward the back door.

We are stuck in awkward silence staring where she disappeared.

It's Ethan's inability to be a man that makes Sarah do the things she does , everyone already knows they were lovers , how is this going to look I wonder .

I take my apron off ,if Sarah gets to act out then so can I .I had to cancel my Kam for this bull ? .

" I'm out , I'm sure you can manage on your own" I slam it on the floor .

" Lauren" he calls out with a defeated tone .

I storm out the house like I didn't hear him attempt to stop me .
