Barry gently stroked my back. "So who do we go with?" He asked.
"Well," Caitlin smiled proudly, "my first choice is Henry Hewitt. He graduated Sumacoolade from Hudson with a double major in applied physics and bioengineering."
Stein chuckled, "A Hudson boy? I like him already."
I stepped closer to the monitors, and asked, "Well, what about this other guy? Jefferson Jackson. High school quarterback, 4.0 student, he's got the physical attributes, and it looks like more of his alleles match than Hewitt's. Doesn't that mean he's more compatible?"
"On paper, perhaps," Caitlin suggested, "but Hewitt is a scientist. Clearly he's trying to make something of his life. I think he'd be open to something like this."
"Well," I replied, crossing my arms over my chest, "I think we should meet with both of them before we make a decision."
Stein nodded his head. "That's an excellent idea."
"Alright," Caitlin grinned, "I'll try to get Hewitt here."
Barry stated, "In the meantime, I'll go with Stein to talk to Jefferson Jackson."
Cisco went back to his desk, and exclaimed, "And I will try to find something to keep you more stable."
________
I walked into the Cortex after completing copious amounts of paperwork in my office, and Henry Hewitt was marveling at Barry's red suit. "I always thought my destiny was for greater things," Henry grinned at Caitlin, and people of course."
She smiled, "Well, when it's all said and done, flying will be the least impressive of your new abilities."
I watched from the doorway as Henry Hewitt hammed it up for Caitlin. "Finally, man reaches the height of the atomic age." He grinned.
Barry glanced back at me from my desk.
"Caitlin," I asked, entering the Cortex. "What's going on?"
She smiled, "I'm glad you're here now. This is Doctor Henry Hewitt."
Henry approached me, trying to make me like him, but I couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong with him. He extended his hand to me, and shook mine rather intensely. "Finn Carter," he fakely smiled, "I've wanted to meet you for a long time. I've read all your papers on nuclear fusion at Kenyon; my favorite, though, is Making Theoretical Physics Reality. You're already becoming a legend."
I grinned. "Oh, you're over estimating me."
Caitlin exclaimed, "Isn't he great?"
Henry smiled charismatically at me, but Barry had the same weary look on his face as I did. "Yeah," I replied, dragging out the H. "Well, um," I stumbled over my words, "Why don't we try merging now?"
Cisco grabbed the atomic splicer from the cart, and had Henry and Stein stand side by side in the Cortex. "Alright," Cisco explained, "When I turn on the splicer you're going to feel a rush of energy, but it's just a molecular primer being released into your body. Then, you can make physical contact with Professor Stein, and then whoosh. The Firestorm Matrix will take over."
"Easy enough," Henry chuckled.
Caitlin asked Stein, "Ready?" Stein handed her the tachyon cane, and Cisco placed my splicer onto Henry's chest. The two men pressed their hands against one another, and glowing fire surrounded their limbs but then went out.
