Caitlin finally cracked, and told the boys about Velocity-9. Whenever Barry and Cisco were in Starling City on my birthday, Caitlin, Harry, Jay, and I collaborated on making a serum to possibly give Jay is speed back, and while I was on Earth-2, it was perfected.
"He's going to be so pissed at me," I groaned, waiting for the boys and Caitlin to comeback from the storage room with the serum.
Harry did an awful Barry impersonation, "Why did you keep this from me, Finn? I could have beaten Zoom."
I laughed, "Shut up, Harry."
Caitlin and the boys emerged from the storage room, arguing. "I promised Jay I wouldn't," she explained, not letting Barry touch the serum.
"Jay, what do you...Why?" Barry looked at the three of us, confused.
Harry sighed, explaining, "Because Jay knew how dangerous this drug is. I should know, Barry; Snow, Finn, and I worked on it together."
Barry glared at me, more pissed off than I'd expected. "Guys, I have been busting my butt out there, pushing myself to the limit, trying to get better, trying to be faster, and you're telling me that there's been something this whole time that could have helped me?" he yelled, mostly at me. "This could have helped me take down Zoom, it could have helped me save Earth-2 Joe, save Jay!"
"Jay was sick, Bar," I snapped, folding my arms over my chest.
"The drug that he took to regain his speed was also causing cellular degeneration. It was killing him. I tried to help, I tried to find a cure, but in all my experiments, the effects were just temporary," Caitlin explained, tears welling in her eyes. She stroked the glass box that held Jay's helmet. "The V-9 is deadly."
Cisco rubbed Caitlin's back as she mourned.
Barry approached me, and asked, softly, "Why not tell me this? Why keep me in the dark?"
"Because, Barry, I'm not going to let you kill yourself to stop Zoom!" I argued.
Cisco nearly tipped over, signaling to all of us that he just saw something. "Are you okay?" Caitlin asked caringly.
"Did you vibe?" Harry asked immediately.
"Uh." Before Cisco could reply, the alert signals blasted through the lab. "Metahuman!" He shouted, running back to the desks, "Yeah! Social media apps for the win! Bad flash is back."
Barry disappeared from the lab in a ball of yellow lightning, throwing papers everywhere.
I chuckled, "Bad Flash? Cisco, I think you're losing your touch."
________
While I sat in the Cortex working in silence, Barry was in the lab training, trying desperately to get faster, and since he got back from fighting the girl-speedster, he hadn't said a single word to me.
I mean, I knew that he was pretty mad at me for not telling him about Velocity-9, but I didn't expect him to pull the silent treatment so quickly. God, he's going to be so much worse when we go home tonight.
There was only the silent taping of keyboards filling the air, and a tense distrust among my peers. Tap, Cisco felt like he couldn't trust me, tap, Barry felt like he couldn't trust me, tap, Jesse couldn't trust us, tap.
Sighing, I got up from my desk, and quickly took my grey CCU sweat-shirt off. I tossed the grey sweatshirt onto my black office chair, and made my way to the lab where Barry was running on the treadmill.
I opened the door to the lab, and was met with Barry blaring his music on the stereo; he didn't notice I was there.
Barry sprinted on the cosmic-treadmill only staring forwards, and the monitor next to him said that he was going 750 mph. "Barry!" I shouted over the loud music. He still couldn't hear me, so I yelled again, "BARRY!"
His head turned to look at me, and pressed the button on the control panel to stop the treadmill. The machine gradually stopped, and once it was safe, Barry stepped off onto steady land. "Yeah, what?" he asked casually, grabbing his water bottle from the counter just across from the treadmill.
Crossing my arms over my chest, I sighed, and asked, "Are you mad at me?"
"What makes you think that?" Barry didn't make eye-contact with me, and I immediately knew that he was mad at me.
I explained, upset he was making me do this, "Well, when you were in the Cortex throwing a fit about not being allowed to use V-9, you were looking at me the whole time you were yelling."
"I'm not mad at you, Finn," Barry chuckled. "I didn't mean to make it seem like I was yelling at you the whole time."
Raising my eyebrow at my fiancé, I asked him suspiciously as he sat down on the office chair in front of me, "So you're not pissed that we hid Velocity-9 from you?"
Barry shrugged, explaining, "All I want is a reasonable explanation as to why I shouldn't take the V-9."
"Figure it out, Bar," I glared at him.
"The game is already rigged, so why can't I level the playing field?" Barry argued, becoming upset with me. "I mean, if everybody else is cheating.... I want to be fast enough to stop Zoom and any speedster that tries to hurt the people I love! Shouldn't I use everything in my power to do that? You're telling me that you wouldn't do that!"
I pulled the Barry-thinking-hands, and paced around the lab, because he was right. "Barry, you aren't me, okay. You can't afford to take risks and make mistakes like I can. Every time you compromise your life, you lose a chunk of your humanity."
Barry chuckled, hiding his face in his hands.
Momentarily smiling, I asked sweetly, "What?"
"Sorry, it's just you're trying to be really deep and Harry-like, but you're just so cute and tiny," Barry laughed, hiding his mouth.
I yelled, laughing with him, "Shut up!"
Barry tried to compose himself, but failed. "I'm sorry, but I can't help it, baby," he giggled, and got up from his chair to get his water bottle.
"I'm going to hit you!" I laughed, grinning now. Barry sat the water bottle back down on the table, and pulled his Star-Labs shirt off over his head revealing his abs. He leaned against the table, facing me, biting his thumb, smirking. "Okay," I grinned, rolling my eyes. I approached him. "Now you're just teasing me, Barry."
He smirked, "Sorry, I can't help it sometimes." I held my hands against his chest, and Barry pulled my waist into his body. "Actually," he laughed, "I take that back; this is revenge for all the teasing you gave me last night."
My jaw dropped, and I sarcastically mimicked Barry, "Babe, why don't you give me a little strip-tease and lap dance so I can get hard."
"I didn't expect you to be so good at it!" Barry argued, giggling.
Then, over the speaker system, Cisco screeched, "FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, TURN THE MIC OFF!"
Barry looked behind him, and he had accidentally turned the mic on with his butt; he moved the microphone away from his body, turning it off.
Both of us held our hands over our mouths in embarrassment that all our friends had just heard that conversation. "Oh my god!" I yelled, my face turning bright red from embarrassment.
