Zoom had unleashed his metahuman army upon our earth, killing numerous police officers and civilians. Barry was trying to it up the best he could, but there were just too many.
We were housing the more dangerous metas in the pipeline, and during the time, Cisco and I were working tirelessly trying to prepare the cells for said metas.
I was walking back from the pipeline to my lab when Cisco came running at me from the direction of the Cortex. "Hey!" he yelled, frantic, "You need to come see this."
"What's wrong?" I asked, and then followed Cisco back to the Cortex. I entered, and sitting on a stool with Henry in front of her was . . . "Caitlin!"
I ran to her, and Henry explained to everyone who was flooding in, "She's in shock, a little dehydrated and malnourished, but I think she'll be fine."
Caitlin looked at me, my hands cupping my mouth, and sympathetically said, "I'm okay."
"What happened?" I asked, kneeling down in front of her," How did you get away?"
She explained to us, confused, "He . . . let me go. I didn't think he would. I thought it was a trap, but," she looked at Barry, who was behind me. "He told me you were dead."
Barry took my place in front of Caitlin, and I stood back.
"I'm not" he explained calmly. "I'm right here, we're all right here, together."
Tears started welling in her eyes, and I could see Caitlin was about to panic. I knew exactly what was going through her head.
I held Barry's shoulder, and said softly, "Give her some space."
He backed up, and we all watched the tears fall from Caitlin's eyes. "Jay's going to overrun this city," she cried, "You can't stop him."
Barry countered, "Yes, we can. Listen to me, he's not going to succeed, we've got this. This is our earth."
"You don't know that," Caitlin argued, "you don't know that. You don't know what he is capable of."
Barry explained to her, calmly, "I know, from being in the Speedforce that the universe is with us, not Zoom. And if the universe is with us, how can we possibly lose? Right guys?"
"Uh, yeah," Jesse replied, uneasy.
I approached Caitlin slowly, trying not to spook her, and said calmly, "You've been through a lot. You need some rest." I held out my hand for her to take, "You helped me, so now I can help you." She took my hand, and Barry followed behind us.
Barry pulled a pillow and blanket down from the cabinets, and laid them down on one of the cots. Caitlin sat down, but quickly grabbed my wrist. "Don't leave me alone," she begged, "please."
I smiled down at her, "I won't," I whispered.
________
In my lab alone, I was analyzing the fetal tissue I had collected from a few days ago, and there was a heavy cloud pressing down on the lab.
I couldn't cry anymore; not because I wasn't sad, but because I was numb to all the pain I'd endured in such a short amount of time.
Barry was on Caitlin duty, so I wouldn't be disturbed; I also had locked all of the doors leading into the lab. Nobody could know.
