She's gone. I just stood there and let Zoom take her from me. I could have shot him, I could have captured him, I could have made sure it was only Barry and Zoom in the room where the deal was being done, but I just stood there.
I only moved to yell her name when she'd already been taken far, far away from her home.
Everything had gone to shit.
________
I worked alone in Caitlin's lab, shutting the entire world out. I had stolen the file for V-9 from Caitlin's desk in her lab; we tell everybody we had destroyed it, but we lied so they wouldn't try anything like Trajectory did.
Many years ago, in university, I'd taken two courses in biochemistry, but I wasn't any good at the subject. Now, I had to be for Barry's sake. During those two years at university, the only reason I got a B in the class was because of my ex-boyfriend being a field medic in the army.
Standing over the workbench, I mixed chemicals together with the V-9 base, hoping, even praying to get a result that that didn't just make the serum change color.
I was making five different serums, all slightly different that the previous. With this method, I would have to eventually find the right one.
Fumes rose from the vials, but I was protected from them by wearing a full hazmat suit and having every fume hood and fan on throughout the facility.
Placing the last five vials into the mixer, I closed the top of the device, and cleaned the worktable the best that I could. I turned the three fume hoods on to high power, and waited until it was safe to take off the suit safely. Leaving the lab, I kept thee fans on inside to circulate the stale air.
________
I entered the Cortex; Joe, Iris, Cisco, Harry, and Barry were all there. Cisco held Jay's helmet in his hands while wearing his Vibe goggles, and he groaned, "I really wish we didn't have to keep Jay's helmet around; I hate this thing." He took his goggles off, and tossed the helmet onto the desk. "I just want to put a dent in it."
"Did you just vibe?" I asked, approaching him frantically.
"Sadly, yes," Cisco grumbled, leaning against the desk.
My heart pounding in my chest, I also asked, "Did you see Caitlin? Is she okay?"
He explained, sighing, "Zoom's got her in his lair, and she's scared but she's okay."
"Thank God," Barry whispered. He stated to the team, "We need to get her back." No shit.
Joe sighed, "I know, but without your speed there's no way any of us can get through that breach that Cisco found at the hospital. I don't think there's anything we can do right now."
V-10, V-10 is the answer to getting Barry's speed back. If I can't figure it out in time, we're going to have to resort to other methods, and the only other idea I have is . . . never mind, it probably wouldn't work.
Harry entered the Cortex, agreeing with Joe even though he didn't even hear the full conversation. "He's right, and that's thanks to you, Allen," Harry snapped, and then began rummaging through the drawers of a desk.
"Enough," I snapped, glaring at Harry. "We're all suffering here, and I don't need you to remind me."
"That's right, Finn, we're all suffering. We've lost Snow, Barry's lost his speed, and now," he chuckled, throwing daggers at me via his words, "and now Zoom could come through that breach any time he wants, and that, Allen, that's on you."
