I rubbed my eyes, frustrated, "It's easier for him when other people are around," I explained, trying to figure out what Barry's deal was.
He asked, trying to be gentle with me, "Do you think you'd be able to convince him to come to the house for dinner tonight?"
"I doubt it, why?" I replied, looking him up and down.
"So I can try to fix things between us, maybe between Joe and Iris too. All of us together again, in one room, and try to work this out once and for all. Please?" Barry suggested, being strangely optimistic.
I rolled my eyes, and scoffed, "Funny how you don't mention trying to fix the shit-show of our relationship." Then, I began to walk out of the lab, back into the Cortex.
Barry got up from his chair, and called after me, "Finn . . . Finn!" I ignored him.
________
Barry had taken the liberty upon himself to invite Joe, Iris, Wally, Caitlin, and Cisco over to the house for dinner; he made me sit next to him at the table. I guess Barry's idea of mending our relationship is forcing me to be around him when I want to do the exact opposite.
I should have taken a hit before this.
Everybody was silent, and that just made the entire situation more awkward than it already was. I didn't eat much since I didn't have much of an appetite; just a dinner roll and a few bites of salad.
Fuck, I need a hit.
"This hits the spot, huh?" Barry smiled, trying to make small talk.
"You can thank Grandma Ester," Joe stated, wanting to escape the conversation.
Barry fumbled, "Uh, no, I mean, it's good, I just meant, um . . . all of us, actually, just here, together. I was actually thinking, um, that maybe it would be fun if we all went away together for a few days. Just like a Team Flash vacay."
"And do what?" Iris asked, confused.
"Bond," he smirked at her, "reconnect."
I glared at him, "You mean like marriage boot camp stuff?"
"Like trust exercises?" Iris scoffed.
Cisco mumbled, "Epic fail, party of seven."
Barry tried to save the conversation, "I just, I just feel like we're not the team that we were—uh, can be." I rolled my eyes, I'm not drunk enough for this. I took another sip of wine, trying to escape this Hell. "No one?" he looked around the table.
Wally, that poor soul, smiled, and stated, "I'd be down for it." He had no idea what he'd gotten himself into.
"Okay!" Barry cheered, and looked at everyone. "So, other than Wally, I'm the only one that thinks that's a good idea?"
"Now you know how I feel," I said under my breath, taking another drink of wine.
Caitlin explained, "I don't really think the Flash takes vacations."
Joe added, "Especially with all these husks showing up all over town."
"Speaking of husks," Iris said to her father, "I'm glad you're finally ready to open up about them." Jesus fucking Christ, Barry, what did you do?
"I already told you, Iris," Joe snapped, "I can't tell you anything about this case."
She raised her eyebrows, and looked at Barry. "Oh really? Because that's not what I was told," she glared a Barry.
I knocked back another glass of wine, and Barry tried to hide away from the conversation.
"Strange," Joe snapped, "because I was under the impression that you had somethings to say to me, too." Joe glared at Barry, who was feeling the guilt. "Ain't that right, Bar?"
Cisco whispered to me, "Told you, epic fail."
"I'm not fucking drunk enough for this," I mumbled to him, getting more wine.
"Okay, I arranged this," Barry came clean, "I put all of this together. I'm sorry guys, but look, we're not acting like a team and I just wanted things back to how they were, fixed."
Cisco snarled, "If you wanted things fixed, maybe you should have gone back in time and stopped my brother from dying."
Barry questioned Cisco, "You want me to change the timeline to save Dante?"
"Why would you do that? It's not like he's your brother," Cisco huffed, going back to his meal. Everything became tenser.
Suddenly, everybody's phones started beeping, and Cisco announced, "Metahuman app, we've got to go." Caitlin, Iris, Barry, Cisco, and I all got up from the table, desperately wanting to leave this dinner.
