The past few days, I had noticed some changes in Draco's behaviour. He seemed sad and confused almost all the time. I didn't know what caused it, but I wanted to help him regardless so I decided to just confront him about it and took the notebook.
Draco, can we meet tonight?
It was already late, but I wanted to have an honest conversation with him, face to face, now.
Can't it wait until tomorrow? I mean, I love sneaking around with you, but it's pretty late already...
Do you mind it now? Please. I need to talk to you.
Okay, meet me at the statue on the 4th floor.
I put the book on my bedside table and silently walked out the dorm, hoping not to wake Ellie. Luckily, the common room was already empty, so I could just walk out.
When I arrived at the statue, Draco was already there. "Y/n! Is everything okay?" he asked worriedly as soon as he saw me. "With me yes, but with you clearly not" I said firmly but in a sweet tone. Draco frowned and gave me a confused face. "What do you mean? I'm perfectly fine."
"Oh don't lie to me Draco, I know you're not." His frown disappeared and he looked down but he stayed silent. "Talk to me Draco, please. I want to help you" I pleaded while walking closer to him and giving his hand a light squeeze as I took it in mine.
"You can't help me y/n, no one can" Draco said sadly while shortly looking up again. My heart just broke at the sight of his defeated expression and at hearing his lost tone. "Sure I can, just tell me what's wrong love."
He looked down again, avoiding any eye contact. "Y/n please, don't make it worse. You can't help me." My heart shattered even more when he said that. "What is so bad and hurting that he feels so lost?"
"Draco" I said softly "I can't bare to see you hurt like this. At least tell me what's wrong." I reached out to put my hand on his left arm as a sweet gesture, but he quickly pulled away as if the touch would burn.
"Hey" I said sweetly "It's okay, I'm here for you." Draco slowly looked up and his sad, watery eyes looked in mine. "I don't wanna burden you with it" he said softly, as if it was simple.
"You won't burden me with it Draco, you could never be a burden to me." I smiled sweetly as a sign of reassurance. Draco cupped my face with his right hand and put his forehead against mine. "I'm sorry" he said after a few minutes, so soft that it was almost a whisper.
"Hey, you don't have to apologise love, it's okay." I broke the contact between our foreheads to looked him in the eyes. "If you don't wanna tell me, that's okay, just know that you can always talk to me. Whatever is bothering you, I will be here to listen."
Draco nodded and I gave him a soft smile. I pulled him into a hug and he leaned his head against mine, as if he was melting at the loving touch. I rubbed imaginary circles over his back to comfort him as I let my other hand comb through is hair softly.
We stayed like that for hours longer until we decided we really needed to sleep. I walked with Draco to the Slytherin dungeons and then went back to my own dorm.
The next morning, I saw Draco at breakfast and he seemed okay but I sensed something was off still. When he suddenly stood up from the Slytherin table and walked out of the Great Hall, I wanted to follow him but I got stopped by Harry that walked in.
"Hey y/n, good morning" he greeted me. "Yeah good morning Harry" I said dismissively. He frowned and wanted to say something again, but I cut him off. "I really have to go now." I passed a speechless Harry and walked out to search Draco.
After some time, I finally found him on the Quidditch pitch. He was flying around freely and he seemed to enjoy it a lot. I sat down in the stands and waited until he came down.
Draco joined me in the stands after his short moment of distraction. "Hey Pup, what are you doing here?" he asked with a somewhat surprised tone. "I saw you walking out the Hall rather quickly and I was worried."
Draco smiled warmly at me. "That's sweet of you darling, but I'm fine." Now, I didn't believe that for even one second. "Can I ask you something love?" I asked as I turned so my whole body was facing him and my legs were on either side of the bench.
"Sure" he said with a curious smile. "Why did you stop playing Quidditch? I know you enjoyed it and I mean, it's not that you were bad either." I had been asking myself this question from the moment I got to know that he wasn't a part of the Slytherin Quidditch team this year.
"I just couldn't do it anymore" he answered firmly which made me frown slightly. "You couldn't?" I asked confused to why. "Yes, I couldn't." He looked over the Quidditch pitch, trying his best not to look at me.
"I don't understand Draco, why not? Your mom surely wouldn't forbid you, she never would!" As soon as I mentioned his mother, Draco's face fell more sadly. "You miss her, don't you?" I asked softly and he finally looked at me with watery eyes. "Narcissa, you miss her." "Yes" Draco said so soft that it was almost inaudible "I do."
