Secrets (Draco x reader)

A few days went by and being with the Weasley's actually really helped me to feel better. I also kept my promise to Draco and we talked every day for at least a few minutes to just check in. I hated that I couldn't hug and kiss him because we couldn't see each other in person but this was better than nothing at least.

The wedding was coming really close now and I helped where I could for the preparations. When the day finally came, it started off well but as the evening continued, Death Eaters crashed the party. Everyone panicked including me until someone put their hand on my shoulder and made us both disapparate.

I was suddenly standing inside the Burrow and I could still feel the hand on my shoulder. I immediately turned around and pulled out my wand and pointed it at the person's face. "Draco?" I asked surprised as I lowered my wand. "What are you-" I couldn't finish my sentence as he pulled me into a hug, cutting me off.

"Are you okay? Are you hurt? Did someone hit you? You hit them back right?" Draco stammered on as he broke the hug and inspected me carefully for any wounds.

"Hey, Draco stop" I said as I took his face in my hands "Calm down, I'm okay. No one hurt me but yes I would definitely hit them back, obviously." Draco gave me a soft but clearly still worried chuckle. "Of course you would" he said making me smile as well.

"Wait, what are you doing here?" I asked concerned as I realised what being here meant for him "You can't be here, it's too much of a risk. What if they find out? They can't find out, you'd be-" I trailed off, my heart clunching as I thought of what they would do to him if they found out.

"Y/n no, don't do that to yourself" Draco said sternly "My mother knows I'm here, she's covering for me. I just had to make sure you were okay." "Draco-" I started but he interrupted me again. "I said no y/n. I needed to know you were alright, get over it" he said firmly, looking into my eyes very seriously.

"Fine" I said after staring back the same way for a few seconds "but I'm fine, please go now so we're both okay." Draco gave me a sceptical look but I answered it with one that said 'oh come on'. He took both my hands in his and softly stroke his thumb over the back of my hand.

"Alright I'll go, but you're gonna keep checking in, okay?" he said with one of his most serious looks. "Yeah I will" I said with a soft smile "but go now, before you get yourself into trouble." Draco nodded and gave me a long kiss before he stepped back a little and disapparated again.

~ time skip ~

I went to the King's Cross Station with the Weasly's and we made our way to playform 9¾. I got on the train with Ginny and we sat down in a compartment with Neville and Luna. We were all still kind of shook up about what had happened at the wedding and how everything was changing so fast.

"Everything is gonna be so weird and different at school" Neville said while looking out of the window. "Yeah, I hope at least we'll still have the nice atmosphere between the students. If even that falls out...." I said worriedly.

After some time we arrived in Hogsmeade and we made our way to the carriges from which I could now see the beautiful creatures who pulled them forwards, the Thestrals. I admired them, I'll admit that but the fact that I was now able to see them made me feel a little sad too.

When we arrived at Hogwarts, I could already sense the difference in everything. Everything felt cold but not from temperature, more as in sad. Snape was headmaster now and there were some new teachers too.

When I got to the Hufflepuff Common Room, I went straight to my dorm and quickly unpacked a little before going to sleep.

In the middle of the night I woke up from a horrible nightmare. I felt dried up tears on my cheeks and if I'd let myself, I would've cried even more.

I didn't feel safe or at home anymore. In that moment I realised that I needed people like Mrs. Weasley who made you feel welcome or people like my friends who made you feel like you mattered or someone like Draco who just made me feel loved.

This year would be hard and I knew it. Things were clearly changing everywhere and I knew that if I wanted to stay safe, I had to improve my skills. If I wanted to protect the people I care about, I would have to put up a fight. And I will.
