Chapter 49 - The Outing...And Who's This Asshole?

Start from the beginning

We walked into another aisle that had dried pasta and similar items in it, and Sypha nearly lost her mind with how many different types of noodles there were. She'd only seen a few that had come from China, but some of these were from Italy and still others from a place called Korea. And then there was the spice aisle. We knew of some of the spices, but there were so many others and variations of the ones we knew, we just couldn't stop asking questions.

"We have more than enough junk food at home, so I'm not even going to go there," Y/N said on a laugh. "I think its about time to head over to the butcher's counter."

"What about the eggs and cheese you said you wanted?" Belmont asked.

"In this store, the dairy section is right next to the counter. When I place my order for meats, I usually grab the eggs, cheese and other sundries from there while I wait."

"Convenient," Sypha said with a smile.

"You guys are having way too much fun with this," I said, shaking my head and smiling to myself.

"Oh shut up, Fang Face," Belmont said. "You know you're just as curious as we are."

"Yes," I admitted, "but I'm trying to act like an adult." Just when the others started to protest, Y/N broke in.

"Don't worry, guys. He's not as adult as he says he is. I can hear what he's thinking, and I can tell you he's been squealing internally this whole time."

"Oh ho!" Belmont shouted triumphantly. "So you're not as you come off, huh?"

Y/N shook her head smiling while the rest of us argued amongst ourselves.

As we were making our way over to the butcher's counter I realized that I hadn't mentioned one thing to Adrian. Taking a deep breath, I decided not to let the others hear.

"Adrian?"

"Yes, love?"

"I need to warn you ahead of time about the butcher."

"What is it?" I went on to explain how the butcher and I had a joking flirtation going back and forth, about his wife and the whole situation from before I went to his time.

"I'm guessing that you're worried I might get upset?" he asked.

"Well, there is that part. I didn't want you to think I was doing something behind your back or trying to either confuse or use you."

"Y/N, the last thing I'd think is that you're using me. You forget that I've seen just as deep into your heart as you have mine. We both have been hurt way too much to even think of using one another, so I don't want you to worry about that ever again."

I sighed in relief. "Thank you for that, Adrian. Really. I was so worried that you'd think poorly of me if this man flirts with me in front of you."

"Of course not. However, I don't want you to say anything to Blockhead over there about it."

I barely contained my giggles as Adrian told me what he was thinking about doing once we got to the butcher counter. Of course I made sure the butcher in question was stationed at the counter (which he was) before I nodded to Adrian.

"So, have you guys decided what you want to have for the cookout?" I asked as we approached the counter.

"Well, hello there sweetie!" the butcher called out over the counter. "These your friends?"
