Hector P.O.V.
"Bring me that one right there!" she shouted, her finger pointing toward a young man who couldn't have seen more than 19 winters. Soldiers scrambled to do as she asked and the people screeched and screamed for him to be let go. His face, however, was a study in serenity. It was as if he knew something like this could happen and he welcomed the chance to stand before them and be the sacrifice.
"There aren't many here, Mistress," one of the soldiers commented. And looking around I did count less than 200 people. With the size of Braila, there should have been closer to 5000 people or more with all those that used to visit the town, the trading due to their access to waterways and their short distance from the ocean and with the farming towns nearby where people would bring their crops and various other goods to sell. This town should have been bustling with people.
"Its because of the mercenaries and night creatures," one woman shouted. "Those damn mercenaries the Church left behind nearly destroyed the whole town!"
"And that's where I'll be different," Carmilla crowed. "I will be merciful and nurturing, unlike those you've had come here with the promise of protection. I will grant you protection without a high price, and all you have to give me in return is your blood." She moved closer to the boy in front of her and sniffed his neck. I watched as her nose wrinkled and decided I must speak.
"There is one area we haven't checked, Carmilla, and that's the mission over there," I said while pointing to the building Master and the others waited in. "Perhaps there are more hiding in there?"
"Check it," she said to some soldiers, but kept hold on the boy. She was still wrinkling her nose every time she leaned in for a sniff, but watched closely as her soldiers came upon the doors to the building. They threw the doors open and pulled out the people who were hiding in there, including Trevor, Sypha, Alucard and Y/N. Their struggling bodies were brought toward the rest and thrust into the throng of people sitting before Carmilla.
"Ah!" she exclaimed happily. "If it isn't the three people I have to thank for destroying Dracula for me!" She left the boy where he stood and walked closer to Trevor, her eyes narrowing as she gazed upon him. Slowly going around his body, she sniffed at him as well.
"There must be something in the water here in Braila that makes you all smell so...odd. I can't quite put my finger on what that aroma is, but it isn't completely unpleasant. Actually," she said as she leaned in again, "it is revolting and nauseating. That could be, perhaps, because I smell murder on you."
"I would think that's your favorite scent, bloodthirsty monster as you are," Trevor said loudly for everyone to hear.
"Bloodthirsty monster? I'm the bloodthirsty monster?" she questioned with an air of incredulousness in her voice.
"Of course you are. You're also one dumb fucking bitch if you can't figure out that craving and drinking blood is the very definition of bloodthirsty," Trevor said while rolling his eyes. Once his eyes made a full circuit of his eye sockets he found himself flying toward the building they came out of when Carmilla's foot came in contact with his chest.
"Any more smart remarks? Personal opinions?" she asked. "Anyone?" I then noticed how her eyes seemed to focus on Y/N. Judging by how the blonde man to her right glared between Carmilla and Y/N, I surmised that he must be her mate. It troubled me how Y/N showed no fear when it came to the monster that is Carmilla. She should be shrinking away in fear, but she returned Carmilla's glare as if she were nothing more than an irritant, someone beneath her.
"You," Carmilla pointed her out, "your glare is beginning to anger me. Why is it you look at me so?" Y/N, however, made no move or intention to speak. Instead a smirk grew across her lips, her eyes glinting with amusement. I turned my head and watched as Belmont crawled back and took his place next to the one referred to as Sypha, her eyes darting toward him, looking him up and down before returning her attention toward the pale woman before them.
