Spring Forward, Fall Back (Alucard x Chubby! Reader)

Sypha P.O.V.

Trevor and I walked hand in hand back toward the kitchen, our hearts heavy with the situation. It pained me to know that I never noticed the fang sticking out of Y/N's arm, but then I didn't see her do anything since my back was turned and attention was on driving the wagon to safety.

"How did it happen?" I asked Trevor. His attention was on the floor, so I had to ask him a second time to get his answer.

"You should have seen it. She was thrown into the air, which, of course, let the night creatures know that there was one defenseless human amongst us. She didn't cower or scream, but instead defended Alucard's back by grabbing his boot dagger and plunging it into the creature who lunged for her," Trevor said with a bit of pride resonating through his words.

"That was quite courageous," I remarked...and I meant it. For someone who wasn't born in this time, had no idea what we'd been facing for as long as we could remember and never had to defend themselves as we had, she had shown great courage and proficiency.

"Even so much as to plan ahead with that spell. And knowing how to speak the language on it? I am more than impressed with her," I admitted. "But to get hurt like that? Especially since we don't really know what to do when bitten? Careless!"

Trevor patted my back gently and uttered, "I know you're worried. We all are. But getting upset with her for doing something that you probably would have done in her place is just silly."

"I know, damn it!" I became angry. "I know that I'm being unreasonable about this whole thing, but that doesn't change the fact that she's hurt now for no reason whatsoever!"

"She's hurt because she tried to protect us, Sypha. Because you know that if that night creature had been able to overpower Alucard, it would have come for us next. She did what any of us would have done for each other. Just because she isn't as experienced as we are doesn't mean that she shouldn't have tried. It just means that we need to hope and pray that she makes it. If not for us, for that fanged fucker in there with her."

I tried not to chuckle, but I failed. "Even now, you can't help but sling insults at him?"

Trevor shook his head. "Nope. I can't stop. Because if I do, it means that I've given up on the whole situation. It means that there's no hope, and that means that he will destroy himself." As much as I didn't want to think it, Trevor was right. Alucard was barely hanging on when we got here, he'd fallen for Y/N so hard in so short a time, and if he were to lose her now he would definitely take his own life shortly thereafter.

We both got into the kitchen and sat down at the table. We were thinking about what to make for dinner since it was getting to about that time, but we both seemed to realize at the same time that we hadn't managed to hunt for it. Y/N's food had run out a while ago with only vegetables left to work with. Even with that knowledge, I decided to open her cooler. Inside were small bits of shredded rabbit, chicken and pork that were kept in small clear containers. With the bits of meat that we had and the left over vegetables, we could manage a halfway decent soup.

I grabbed the vegetables and a couple of knives so Trevor and I could work together and get things started. It would be dark soon and we wanted to make sure to have the front of the castle shut up tight before we went to our room, and we wanted to check on Alucard and Y/N to see how things were going with them. Sighing heavily, I got to work on cutting vegetables and getting the water ready for them.

Trevor P.O.V.

This is just busy work, the making of dinner. Not only am I finding myself not hungry, but also finding that Sypha's feelings on the whole subject of Y/N closely mirrored my own. I despised the fact that a woman from another time had to save me. I loathed the feeling that she got hurt because we weren't able to face all directions at once. Even so, I admired her courage and understood that what she did wasn't just for herself or her own gain, but also because she wanted to protect us all.
