"Sir," my assistant Bradley said to get my attention, "you have a meeting today at 10, and you have to look over these two contracts before signing them. The partners would like for you to get that done as soon as possible so the project can proceed on schedule." My assistant, prim and proper as ever, reminded me more of a butler than an assistant ever since I got hurt. Not saying that he didn't look after my work schedule before, but being at home made it feel as if he was taking care of me like one would a sick child.

Christopher Bradley's been here for about three weeks already. I set him in the guest room so that he wouldn't have to keep driving in from the other side of town. His house was about thirty minutes from the office, but mine was nearly an hour and a half from him. I felt poorly about the idea that he would have to drive so far every day, so the guest room was set up by the maid service I had come over once a week and made available for him until I was doctor approved to go back to the office.

"Thanks, Bradley. I don't know what I would have done without you being here these last few weeks."

He chuckled. "Why do you never call me by my first name? It kind of makes me feel like I'm working for Batman or something."

I snickered. "You do realize Bruce Wayne referred to his butler by his first name, right? His name was Alfred Crane."

"Oh shut up," Bradley said, narrowing his stern green eyes at me. "You know what I meant, you old fart."

"Hey! I'm not that fucking old," I argued. "I'm a young 58, not mummified."

"Yeah, I know," was Bradley's retort. "You're still an old fart compared to me."

"You're in your thirties, man. You aren't a young buck by any stretch of the means," I grumbled. "Now shut up and give me the paperwork so I can get it done before Y/N gets here."

"Go sit in the living room, Grandpa. I'll bring your things as well as the weak tea and toast you need to take your medicine," the little bastard chuckled through. There were days I could just beat this fucker within an inch of his life because of that smart mouth of his.

I sat down at the coffee table in the living room and pulled up the floating desktop. My laptop was in the top drawer, so I got that ready as well. It wasn't going to take me too long to get this done, but I was restless. It has been a while since I'd seen Y/N, picture or otherwise, and I was excited to see how my little girl had blossomed and flourished. If the picture that Reggie had sent me was any indication, I had the gentleman she was with to thank. My lovely Y/N seemed to glow with happiness in his arms and he seemed to be completely enamored of her in return. I just hoped she wouldn't be upset with me later.

"Sir?" Bradley said to get my attention.

"Sorry," I said as I shook off my daydreams. "I was miles away."

"You're too excited to see Y/N, aren't you?" he asked, a smirk creeping across his face.

I sighed. "I am. I'm afraid I don't have the attention that these documents require, nor do I have the patience to sit through yet another boring board meeting. It has been far too long since I've seen my baby girl, and after she's gone through so much with her horrid mother and sister, I feel like I'm even more eager to see her."

"I understand," Bradley said. "I think, just for today mind you, that we should postpone the meeting until next week. You won't have your head in it anyway." I couldn't help but smile widely at the idea of playing a bit of hooky from work. I know that Y/N would chew me out for doing it anyway and tell me I should rest and all that good stuff.
