Chapter 90 - And The Mistake Is Made

Start from the beginning

"No matter," Carmilla said with a sinister smirk. I saw her fingernails bite into the skin of the boy's shoulder, his blood began to dribble down his chest. People in the crowd, I also surmised were his family, cried out in anguish and began to beg.

"Please!" an older woman begged, "Please don't take my son! He's all I have left!" The people around her were trying to soothe her even as her cries turned to wails. The boy widened his eyes as the pain shot through him, tears growing at the corners of his eyes, but he clenched his lips shut to keep any cries from escaping. But then those same eyes caught his mother's attention.

As I looked on, the boy's eyes pleaded for everyone to be still. His head shook slightly in an effort to tell his mother not to fight or beg. It was as if he knew he would die no matter what anyone said and was willing to sacrifice himself to keep his mother, and the rest of the town, safe. The few tears that escaped him came without the usual cacophony of shrieks, cries and pleas for help. No begging for his life. Nothing. He simply stood as straight and tall as he could, keeping as silent as possible while trying to keep a brave face for his family and friends who were forced to watch.

"Ah! Such bravery!" Carmilla crowed. "It is a thing most wondrous to witness such a thing before certain death. Perhaps you believe I will be more merciful if you remain stoic before me? Or maybe you believe I will release your family because of your silence?"

"No," the boy said monotonously. "I don't believe you'll spare them, even if I plead or beg for it. Just as there's nothing I can do should you choose to kill me where I stand. I just see no reason to fight the inevitable."

"And now you show me arrogance," Carmilla's frustrated voice rung out. "Explain yourself before you die!"

"You will do what you want even if I cry, beg, plead or try to run away, so what's the point of fighting what I know I cannot?"

"I'm amazed one as young as you understands this," Carmilla said. "It is rare to find a human who understands their lot in life cannot be easily changed with a plea." She then leaned down to his ear and smirked menacingly.

"It's truly too bad there aren't more like you," she said as the smirk peeled back to reveal her long fangs, her tongue darting out to lick her blood red lips. "And its even more of a pity that you must be the first to die. I would've liked to have gotten to know you much better." Her head quickly darted up and away from the boy.

"Lenore! Come forth, taste the fresh blood of this boy and share this triumph with me!" Carmilla shouted only to be met with silence. "Lenore!"

"She will not be joining you, Carmilla," Alucard said with a smirk of his own.

"What do you mean, filth?"

"She will not be by your side any longer," He responded.

"Lenore is currently suffering from a slight case of death," Y/N said with a smile. Carmilla's eyes widened and her head whipped around to me, piercing me with her angry gaze.

"I will kill him," Carmilla uttered with a sinister growl. "Tell me where my sister is, Forgemaster!" I didn't say one word to her, but rather lifted my left hand and showed her the missing finger and a smile slowly creeping across my face.

"Damn you, Hector! You fucking traitor!" she howled, tears coming from her eyes slowly turning to blood. "You murdered Lenore? The one who cared for you most? The one who was there to keep you safe from me? You killed her?"

"Of course I did," I railed. "No one wants to be forced to follow every wish someone else has, but its even worse if you're forced to do it with no chance to be free. She chained me to her side and forced me to do your bidding because you were too anxious to begin your plan. So yes, I killed her to reclaim that which you took from me: my freedom." Carmilla's face contorted to one of pure agony. Blood flowed freely from her eyes, her mouth opened wide in an inhuman scream and her body hunched over the shoulder of the boy she held.

"Lenore! Striga! Morana!" her voice called the names aloud, shaking with emotion through each one. Her breaths came out as almost a gasp with how she panted with sadness and pain as the reality of her loss finally set in.

"Damn you, Forgemaster!" she bellowed, her voice dropping to demonic level. "My sisters. All gone. I will do this in their name, to make you, all of you, feel my pain!" Carmilla then lurched forward and brought her mouth down to the boy's neck, her long, sharp teeth puncturing his throat, ripping the flesh in an audible squelching noise. Her cries could still be heard reverberating over the boy's skin as she furiously drank of the blood that spurted into her mouth and across her cheek, the tearing of the flesh easily seen by the onlookers, especially his mother.

The horror of the crowd presented itself with screams, shrieks and cries. Their eyes mirrored the terror in their hearts as they watched the boy's throat being exposed by Carmilla, her angry ripping of his skin away from his bones exposing everything beneath. The boy's mouth opened in a silent scream while his life blood flowed not only into Carmilla's mouth and face, but also down the front of him to soil the stones and dirt below him. Tears rolled down his cheeks while his widened eyes slowly lost focus, the pupil within blowing outward and causing his once striking blue eyes nearly turn black.

Carmilla, once done drinking from the boy, threw his body to the ground. Her heaving breaths from her own anguish came in loud gasps, her head hung low while her hands came up to grip at the front of her dress. Suddenly, a loud wail could be heard from the vampire woman before us, her lower jaw extending to an inhuman length. Her eyes had turned a deathly grayish white with no pupil to be seen. She gazed out at us all, looking at everyone but taking none of the sights around her in. Her hands became gnarled as the bare tree branches around us, looking more like those of an old crone from stories of old. It was then that she spoke, her voice more of a growl than her more recognizable snarky tone.

"I WILL KILL YOU ALL!"
